Love for Cinema in Sudan
Former cinemas have become wastelands in Sudan, a lively cinema culture has not existed here for many years. Ibrahim, Soliman, Manar and Altayeb all studied film abroad in their youth. They are directors and passionate cinephiles and now want to revive cinema in their home country. The documentary accompanies the four close friends in their tireless and always optimistic fight for their big dream, shows them sweeping out a gigantic open-air cinema or trying to order a projector by telephone in the USA.
It becomes clear, that the totalitarian regime in Sudan is responsible for the death of the cinemas, yet Talking About Trees is not primarily a political film, but focuses on its dedicated protagonists, who impressively succeed in conveying the magic, power and meaning of moving images.
