Kevin is 17 and has just been released from juvenile detention. To avoid the awkward confrontation with his father, he moves in with his aunt instead, who sets up a room for him in her house while the uncle takes him on as an apprentice in his company. The adults mean well, but Kevin experiences their alleged affection as constriction, ignorance and paternalism.
When his cousin Sammy introduces him to his friends, Kevin meets the timid John, who also suffers under an overbearing mother. A bond is formed between the two that makes them go to the extremes together.
Seldom has a film captured the tensions between parents and their adolescent children as atmospheric and intensely as Home does. In its impressive immediacy this sensitively observant film is as merciless as a punch in the gut.
