After a long stay in the rehabilitation centre, the young musician Anton returns to normal life. With his grandfather he lives in a remote house in the woods outside of Kiev. On the first evening after his release, he meets the art student Katya, who intends to move to Berlin with her boyfriend. Both are at an important turning point in their lives and fall in love with each other tentatively. An equally dreamy and complicated relationship begins.
Falling is not just a love story spanning a few days, it’s also a sensitive time and generation portrait of Ukraine. The conflicts of recent years are neither visible part of the events, nor find their way into the dialogues, but they are palpable, shape the characters and their ideas of themselves and the future. Cinematographer Sebastian Thaler delivers emphatic images that let the film live off the captivating faces of its protagonists.
